Gloria Negrete McLeod is a candidate for the Chaffey College Governing Board election set for November 3, 2015. Throughout her two decade career in public service, Gloria Negrete McLeod has distinguished herself as an effective advocate for helping improve our local schools and community colleges.
As a member of the Chaffey College Governing Board between 1995 and 2000, Gloria worked to expand access to critical job training programs and improve academic outcomes for students of all ages. As President of the Governing Board, she ensured that services were being met at the college for both students and faculty.
As our local state lawmaker, she served on the Higher Education Committee, and as a state senator, served as Co-Chair of Education Master Plan Review. Gloria authored over 160 bipartisan bills that were signed into law by three different governors, including new laws that helped local school districts recruit quality teachers, expanded job training programs, and made it easier for California’s families to send their kids to college.
Gloria represented our region as a Member of the United States House of Representatives from 2013-2015 where she introduced legislation addressing the cost of rising college tuition. As a member of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, Gloria was an advocate for our veterans and their educational futures and successfully passed legislation that helps our veterans receive benefits.
Gloria and her husband Gilbert McLeod, a retired police lieutenant, have lived in San Bernardino County for 45 years. They have 10 children, 27 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren.
